How do the Pens affect the lifestyle of the people living in Pangasinan?
Pros - The positive effect of having a fish pen near your town is that you will have an unlimited supply of fish. There will be an available job for those people living near the gulf of pangasinan and south china sea. The fishermen will not go to the deeper side of the sea just to catch fish for them to earn income, instead they will just take care of those fish that was caught in the Fish pens and increase the quantity of fish inside the Fish Pens.
Cons - One of the biggest problem that a town with fish pens is facing is the Fish kill or what they call fish mortality. Due to excessive number of fish pens in a certain territory, the oxygen under the water becomes thin and the fishes struggles to breathe. The sudden change of temperature under the water is also one of the cause of the said fish kill. I can say that this is a negative effect to their lifestyle because through the fishes in the fish pens is where they get their income for them to survive. Another problem that affect their lifestyle is that the owners of the said fish pens tends to fight for the location and the measurements of their fish cages, with this problem, the owners tend to cheat on the measurements of their pens without knowing that with this action, it can lead to a sudden fish kill. With this cheating of the measurements of their pens, the owners will start to bribe the government agencies like BFAR (Bureau of Fisheries and Aquatic Resources) and DENR (Department of Environment and Natural Resources) that will give a negative effect on the names of the said agencies.
